When the truck pulls up you want relief, not the sight of a driver reaching for the same ratchet straps he uses for Vauxhalls. A car can be dragged onto a wheel-lift. A motorcycle strapped down by someone who's never handled one arrives with a cracked fairing, a bent lever, or worse. We only recover bikes the way bikes should be recovered.
A car can be lifted on a sling and towed on its own back wheels. A motorcycle cannot — there's nothing holding two wheels upright once the engine's off, so a bike has to be carried flat. That means a flatbed truck or a purpose-built motorcycle trailer, never a sling.
The method is specific: the bike is walked or winched up the ramp, the front wheel sits in a wheel chock that cradles it upright, and it's locked down with soft-tie straps at the frame — never the handlebars, never the fairings, never the exhaust. Those aren't load points, and treating them as one is how the damage happens. Straps cranked over a fairing crack the plastic; a tie-down on the bars knocks the steering out of line. Ten minutes of the wrong technique can write down a bike worth thousands.
Four things mark out an operator who actually knows bikes — and every one is standard on our trucks:
One number, a clear fixed price up front, and a process built around protecting your bike.
Give us your location (postcode, road or nearest junction), the bike, and what's happened. We dispatch on that first call and quote a fixed price before we set off.
The nearest flatbed heads straight out — typically 30–60 minutes across Birmingham. We'll try a roadside fix first (a jump start or air) where it's possible.
Wheel chock, soft-tie straps at the frame, and your bike taken wherever you choose — home, garage or dealer. We walk you round it on delivery so you can see it arrived undamaged.
Don't let a non-specialist near your bike. One call and the nearest flatbed is on its way.
Bike recovery is cheaper than car recovery — the load is lighter and easier to move. A short local job within the city starts from roughly £50–£60. (For context, the average vehicle recovery across Birmingham runs £86–£142; a bike usually sits at the lower end.) Four things move the price: distance to drop-off, time of day, whether you're on a motorway or city road, and whether the bike needs winching rather than rolling on.
| Option | From | Avg response |
|---|---|---|
| Local pay-per-use (Birmingham) | £50–£60 | 30–60 min |
| RAC motorbike cover | ~£63/yr | 38 min |
| AA motorcycle cover | ~£66/yr | 42 min |
| Highways-managed motorway recovery | £250–£500+ | varies |
A daily commuter recovers the cost of annual cover after one incident. A weekend rider whose comprehensive insurance already includes recovery is often better off paying per use — check your policy first, you may already be covered. The one scenario that tips the balance is a £250–£500 managed-motorway bill on the M6 or M6 Toll: if you can get onto the hard shoulder and call your own operator before a National Highways patrol arrives, you keep control of the cost. For the full picture, see our car recovery cost in Birmingham guide.
Based in Birmingham with flatbeds across the region, we reach most local jobs in well under an hour — the motorway box, the city centre, residential streets and car parks alike. We know the awkward spots: Spaghetti Junction, the M6 smart-motorway stretches and the M42 with no permanent hard shoulder.
"Recovered my bike after a get-off on the A38. Strapped it properly at the frame, treated it like his own. Wouldn't use anyone else now."
"Scooter died near Spaghetti Junction at night. Flatbed with a proper wheel chock, sorted in 40 minutes. Calm, professional, fair price."
"Asked the questions — flatbed, chocks, soft ties — and got a confident yes on all three. My fairings arrived without a mark."
24/7 specialist motorbike recovery across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Flatbed, wheel chocks and soft-tie straps as standard, so your bike arrives the way it left.
